UP is rolling out their Unified Plan 2020, and the Sunset Route is undergoing the transition right now. This will be an odd time for everyone involved, but I'm curious how it will affect traffic on the portion of the route we model.
Essentially, PSR involves prioritizing moving cars rather than moving trains. This means that if I have cars to move to a destination and a train scheduled to go that way, the cars should be on the train, regardless of type. This is why we're starting to see more intermodal trains with manifest blocks and vice-versa.
I don't know how much of this we want to simulate, but I do have at least one idea for the Dallas traffic. Since I doubt that general merchandise is going to be riding Z trains, pick the ILBDI. Put DA cars in the departure yard at WC and have it pick them up on the way through. The IDILB could pick up LB cars off 501/502 on the way west.
That could be a trial for what UP might be doing right now. Other Yuma Sub blocks like EC could probably be treated similarly, since volume is low enough that it makes sense for them to be a pickup rather than an entire train. For high-volume blocks like RV or LA, this probably won't work, but who knows what UP has up their collective sleeve.
