Need a recommendation from the community.
Lately I’ve been noticing my computer is starting to show its age. It’s starting to slow down and with each update from Run8 it’s getting slower and slower. I do have a new computer, but with V3 set to be released in the coming months/weeks/days I’m not sure I want to purchase V2 and then spend more $$$ on V3 when it’s released. Should I stay with what I have now and wait or go ahead and put V2 on the new system?
Thanks in advance, 5ash

A question to consider:
Is your current computer a laptop or a desktop? If it is a desktop, might upgrading the video card be an option that could be done now and therefore be useful for V2 but also reap benefits whenever they get around to releasing V3 (assuming we all go to V3)?

Not an expert here at all on this subject. I have Run 8 v2 running on 3 desk top machines, including the server that supports SRS multi-player operations. I'm sure there's all sorts of questions to be asked about your setup 5ash to understand what might be impacting your experience.
Do you have similar issues in single player (not over the internet connected to the server), or only experience issues when connected to the server? The desktop the runs SRS has an Intel i5 processor and 12GM of memory. It usually runs with the window minimized, and peaks at 26% cpu utilization, all of the graphics settings are set to minimum and sound is disabled.
One of my two client machines has an Intel i7 processor, 12GB of memory, NVDIA graphics and it doesn't blink. Runs perfectly all of the time. Make sure you have your graphics settings (shadows, fps, distant scenery, tiles, set realistic). While I don't have a laptop that runs Run 8, I do know that laptops seem to have more background processes running than desktops do. Might want to check on the overall performance health of your laptop.
Wish I had some idea when V3 might be something having a serious conversation about. It will be ready when it's ready, which makes a lot of sense because I've dealt with a lot of software that wasn't ready and it's really frustrating. I respect what Run 8 is doing, when V3 is released and brings capabilities that can take us forward, SRS will be upgrading.
Cheers, Mike

Thanks for the help Mike. To answer some of your questions without looking at the specs. I do have some small issues in SP and have had it crash when I spawn in to certain places (Barstow, SBD/WC, and anywhere near Alameda). When I play SP I have the graphics set pretty low, no shadows, 2 tiles max, and capped at 20 FPS (which I almost never hit).
When I’m on the server it runs much smoother as I’m only pulling my surrounding area. I’ve had issues before of crashing Run8 when I spawn into the above mentioned areas. I usually have to “walk” it in and let the world catch up as I move.
This is an older machine and was given to me, so I’m not complaining at all. It has been worth its money for sure. I just feel this machine will not be able to handle whatever they roll out with V3. I will make the purchase for the new rig when it’s released, but I’m not sure if I should purchae V2 now or wait until the release of V3. .

No worries, and I doubt I've been much help. Sounds like to me at least, spawning into heavy graphics areas which you mentioned is an issue. Spawning into Ludlow on Needles Sub, not so bad, spawning into Barstow not so good and on the SRS server maybe really not so good. The graphics and the number of trains in the world in West Colton and Barstow can be an issue for sure.
Thanks, Mike

Can't you just re-activate your version of V2 on the new machine? I've never tried switching computers with my install. You could always mail the devs and see if they could wipe your registration or something to allow a fresh install on the new rig.
I run my copy on a laptop with onboard graphics and it chugs at times, especially if I'm in the yard, with shadows on, when something is being humped. I get 12-16 FPS at those times. I'd recommend a hefty graphics card, as the game does seem heavily dependent on that. I've got plenty of memory and good processor power, but the graphics processing is a bottleneck. I've had similar freezing/crashing issues if I try to run the sim on a second, larger monitor with the laptop, again a graphics processing power issue.

I’d like to keep Run8 on the current machine, which would require a second code (I think). If I turn the shadows on I max out at around 10 FPS.

I installed my copy of Run8 on both of my machines without issue. The other night though, I kept getting booted when dispatching. My ping rate was good so I don't know why and it didn't happen when I wasn't dispatching.
