If there are no objections, I would like to modify the plant switcher works slightly. I would like the plant switcher to be responsible for pulling the outbound cars down to the spur half way between the plant and the Boron Siding and leave them there. Reason for this is to simplify the job of the 0611 crew, they can then just slide right into track 7 and drop the inbound cars, and grab the outbound cars off the spur on the way out. This would save a considerable amount of time for the 0611 crew as they will no longer have to run all the way up to the plant, back to the spur, back to the plant, back to the spur, then back out to the siding.
I understand the private plant switcher can't be in the Boron siding, or on the mainlines, but I don't see any reason they couldn't spot the outbound cars on the spur halfway. Let me know what you guys think.

It was brought to my attention today that the Auxiliary track at Boron is not as long as the fence track (track 7). So I recommend a modification to my modification. Limit the amount of cars going to Boron to 3000 feet at a time. Let the 1161 crew drop them on track 7. Borax switcher can sort by car type onto track 2, 3, and 4. Once loaded/unloaded, they can be spotted on tracks 5 and 6 for the 1161 crew to pick up. This still allows the 1161 crew to get in and out much quicker without doubling back 2 or 3 times.
It was suggested to limit the inbound cars to 2300 to fit on the AUX track, but I don't want to limit the cars too much where we have a huge hard and very little in it, (Cemex VVC, ha ha). This is an option, but would require adjusting traffic flows in the Config to avoid a pileup of excess BOR cars in Barstow.

I know this discussion is from a few years ago, but I was wondering what the current procedures are for making p/u and s/o at Borax. The local is currently in the siding, but not sure how far back it actually goes. I see cars at the plant so I would assume it goes all the way to the plant.

The way I first experienced the Borax plant was the L-CAL0611 picks up and sets out from the "fence track", which is the western most track at the facility. Only the Borax plant switcher works all of the tracks at the facility. How you incorporate the use of the AUX track just south of the facility is up to you.
Thanks, Mike
