I have noticed that some of the Local jobs that are available have been going untouched for a few sessions. I also know that having spoken with some of the newer members, they have told me that they are not quite comfortable with running local jobs and switching industries yet. Anyone interested in having some one on one guidance for running their first local train, don't hesitate to let myself or any of the other admins know. We are always glad to help you get your rail legs under you. Local switching and yard work is my favorite thing to do on the server, and without the local switching jobs our traffic flow comes to a screeching halt. We don't seem to have any issues getting yard jobs completed between sessions, but we can't forget about the local trains that need to run during the sessions. If you see me online for a session and I am not dispatching, just let me know if you want me to work with you on a local switching operation to help you get comfortable. I've always found it more fun to run a two man operation with an actual conductor and an engineer anyway, but in the past we haven't really had the manpower for that. I personally would love to see more co op teams going, it brings in even more realism and helps get the work done faster. Don't be shy, we all were new at one time to. Thanks, Clint

Also check out my video on switching and what to look for. I had one I think in the how to section that Ski posted for me. There will be a video dated tonight 06/17 as I'm going to check on the server. It works the same as either having a DS or not having a DS. But perhaps I'll demonstrate both this week and next. The truth is there are LOTS of new jobs I've never run, but it doesn't take much to become comfortable with a certain area. So look for my YouTube channel search for Sean Murrell and SRS 06/17 and you should find it later tonight, going live shortly. I'll also have another one SRS 06/19 on Tuesday night and purposely take on a switcher to give you guys an idea the differences between the two. If the video is too long because it's a live stream just fast forward the speed, and hopefully you'll get all the good parts with my chipmunk voice Thanks Sean

So I worked on the Victorville area and this was a perfect example of what can be both very easy, and even for me at times not sure what is happening. This demonstrates what to do in the situation if your not sure. Ski was the originator of a job and I had some confusion, since he wasn't there I asked Mike who was on the server. There was another complication at the end but ultimately the job got done.
One thing to keep in mind communication is important. Don't worry about screwing up or making a mistake. Just try to keep in mind what you can TRY to do and what you should WAIT to do to get clarification. There was an AI train for example that prevented me from backing the yard power into the yard so instead of leaving it on the main that would complicate the Tuesday session I just ran around and entered the east end for example.
One other thing I FORGOT to change the title of the video tonight so it may show as 6/14 by the time you see this. I will attempt to change it to 6/17 once it finishes processing as the live stream is now over. I'll be back on Tuesday night to see if this job or another one is available.
Running a local in or out a session is very similar, but there are a few things you should follow. I'll go over that in my next video on Tuesday and live streaming at about 9pm EDT.
See ya then.
Sean

I will try to give the point of view of a rookie, as my experience on trains is zero in real life; several hours on TS2017, that has nothing to do with Run8, excecpt for the general concept on how a Train is run; and the few hours I've spent in run8, both in SRS and sigle player "auto-training". On Clint's post, I will say that is beyond doubt, that everyone I've talk to on multiplayer(or in the forum), tried to help me as much as he can; about the local switching is the job i'm more 'afraid of', because it overwhelms me a lot, you have to consider the order, the end of the train you need to push or pull depending on the orientation of the industry track, if you need to cut the train on a siding to not blocking a main line, or to make a runaround to go for the other side of the cut. ouch!, so many things to consider that maybe experience will only help. Carlsbad helped me the other day on sorting the old yard at BAR, switching tracks, and telling me where to stop and start reversing, a way more easy, fun and immersion. But its difficult to say someone, something than sound like (exxagerating): 'hey you, can you leave whatever you are doing and help me on this task?. The other big factor for european members is the time shift for obvious reasons. Sunday sessions are great as I tested yesterday, but I don't want to bother you on your weekend, and much less on the way you manage your server and DS sessions. Its me the one that must fit your server. On Sean's post, I'm a suscriber on your videos, as you have tons of hours on live session that help me on how to manage inside a server, and how to handle trains, tasks, and whatever. I much appreciate your effort on recording those sessions. I've already seen some of your recommendations, some of them twice, and I'm crazy enought to check when is a new video uploaded, and watch it. The other day I even watched you live from 00 to 01 am, so think about my craziness . Now I will share something I do for training myself. I like to save trains and load them in single player. I think this works for every job, such as trim, locals, hump, block... On dynamic braking I found cable-caliente section as the best section to check my ability (i don't own cajon and SB....yet), you can go down alone, or spawn some IAs upwards to increase the difficulty, and add some dispatching tasks. I've also tried from caliente estbounds some DPU training, but it was a total dissaster as the train didnt move a single inch forward, so i've to check on that (bad handling, too much weight...) To summarize. Thank you for all your effort on the server and on the forum, and do not hesitate to request me anything you need. In my private life I work as a programmer and if it can help somehow on any task, I will be glad to help as far as possible. Regards, Egoitz

Egoitz, the only thing I would like to mention about your single player training with DPU specifically, is to make sure when you set the train up, if you click Auto MU/DP make sure that you are still checking that the DPU is set correctly. We have found a bug where sometimes the direction of the DPU Lead is set incorrectly with the Auto MU/DP button. Not sure if Run8 is aware of this or if they are working on it. It flies under the radar most of the time because when you AI a train, the AI can do anything. You could probably give an AI crew a train with .5 hpt and it will run just fine. Player controlled trains though do show this issue. If it is not properly set, you will essentially be pulling opposite directions from both ends.
