This page will cover general operating procedures and rules for the BNSF/UP/SJVR California Region Server.
Simulation Software/Version/Subdivisions:
Run 8 Studios Run 8 Version 2
Mojave, Needles and Cajon Subdivisions
Access to the Server:
Being a member of this forum will enable you to view the IP address and current password of the multiplayer server. Neither of these are to be shared with anyone.
Information about server connections is located in the Server Operations section.
Spawning of Trains on the Server
Currently only the on-duty DS and Server Owner will be spawning trains on the server.
Clock
The day/time on the server will be the current day/time in the Pacific time zone, and Daylight Savings Time will be observed as well. The clock only runs when we are dispatching the railroad, otherwise the clock is frozen to allow yard/local work to keep up with mainline train movements.
Dispatching and Allowed Train Movements
The Dispatcher is a position with great responsibility on the railroad. It is very important that trains get prioritized and routed to the proper destinations, especially because several of the trains are needed to supply cars for yards and industries. To be a Dispatcher here at SRS you need to be authorized by the server owner MikeRice. He doesn't plan to have a complicated authorization process, as it's in the best interest for all of us to have several folks qualified to be a Dispatcher.
My preference is to run in Oligarchy Mode for Dispatching, which means the Dispatcher will have a password that only allows them to see the CTC Boards. The Dispatcher is required to use External Dispatcher which is an amazing tool developed by Mr. Balls and is available at The Depot (which has many unique and valuable resources related to Run 8). Communications with the Dispatcher will be initiated by "toning", and the Dispatcher will answer you on the appropriate voice or text channel (as displayed on the F3 CTC Panel in Run8). Be patient when waiting for the Dispatcher to respond.
West Seligman Sub and the LA Area are not covered by External Dispatcher, and must be dispatched using the F3 screen within the simulation.
Available work in the Yard areas can happen whenever the server is available (24x7 is the plan). All of the automated switches within the larger yards will be unlocked so they can be operated by switching crews in those areas. I prefer the Dispatcher not get involved with operating switches within the yards, but they will need to be involved with arrival/departure routings.
Train operations on the Mainline (client and AI control) can only happen when we have an on duty Dispatcher. As mentioned earlier the CTC Board will be dark, and the Dispatcher is required for switch and signal routings. A calendar will be maintained and shared with the membership for the dates/times we are planning to have an on duty Dispatcher available. I'm tentatively planning we will have 3 Dispatcher sessions per week, tentatively there would be a session on Tuesday and Thursday evening (Central US timezone), and one weekend morning session.
Operations by Schedule
We will no longer have automatic randomly generated AI trains on the SRS server. Specific trains will be spawned (either using the AI generator, or manually) based on the schedule that will be published in the registry.
Admin Only Functions
Tagging of cars is STRICTLY LIMITED to those who are designated Admins by the server owner unless specifically instructed in the Work List detailed instructions. Clients are allowed to changed the lead locomotive tags ONLY in order to build trains or break down those which are complete.
