I've noticed there is an MOW work train that just loaded up at Newberry ballast pit. I think it would be fun and challenging for the dispatchers if we started laying some ballast on the mains with it during sessions. I'd be willing to crew it for this if necessary but I have also tested and you can run it on AI by overriding the train speed limit in the TMU. I think it would make an interesting challenge especially for the East dispatcher who otherwise is usually a bit dull to be honest. Thoughts?

On those days when I dispatch, I would welcome occasional “weird stuff” of whatever sort, such a MoW projects.

I definitely like the idea and have thought about trying this at some point. My original thought was just picking a section between control points on one of the main tracks of a double track area and spawn some hyrail vehicles along with a short train of ballast, gondola and bulk head flat cars to simulate a crew working. The open main track could have the signals cleared as needed using a restricted signal to limit the speed of all trains passing the work crew.
More ideas/comments? I'll work on some ideas to schedule/track these work crews and/or ballast dumping.

I too would enjoy a "curve ball" from time to time. I need to bring my skill sets back up to par and practice, practice practice. As solely a Dispatcher type, i would like that.

Hello Scott, long time no see. Hope you're doing well.
Mike, would making track bulletins for open mains near work area not affect the AI speeds through those zones? Maybe some testing is in order.

Ok, it appears the track bulletins are purely informational and not functional. I personally would love to see the chaos caused by a section of Needles being closed for a full work day (8-12 hours).

Hello Clint! I am doing well, thank you for asking. For an entire day? Oh MY. That would certainly put a twist in it.

So for tonight's session I will put some MOW type equipment on M2 between Ludlow and West Ash Hill. Also I have a ballast train (U-NEWNEE5), sitting at Newberry ballast pit that could be moved to the work zone between Ludlow and West Ash Hill on M2 and dump ballast at 10mph using the speed override and AI? If the Dispatcher clears signals for M1 using a restricted setting, it should cause all of the AI traffic to move around the work area at restricted speed.
How does this sound?

Track bulletins will need to be entered and updated in a registry sheet I think. That way dispatchers and train crews can both see them, and dispatchers can clear sections of track with restricted signals as appropriate.

Sounds good to me. I can set up a tab for track bulletins and get them into the SIM as well for tonight (if Mike hasn't already done it).

There is now a page in the registry for any track bulletins that need to be posted.
